Heat Pumps

Heat Pumps for Comfortable Homes Year-Round

Delta Air supplies and installs efficient heating and cooling for bedrooms, living rooms, open-plan spaces, offices and other individual areas. We help you choose the right heat pump based on the size and layout of the space, insulation, glazing, ceiling height, location and how the room is actually used. We specialise in retrofit, replacement and new-build heat pump installations.

High-Wall / Single-Split

One indoor unit paired with one outdoor unit, providing both heating and cooling. The most popular way to condition individual rooms and open-plan areas.

Ideal for

  • Bedrooms and living rooms
  • Open-plan kitchen/dining
  • Offices and rentals
  • Renovations and new homes

Benefits

  • Heating and cooling from one system
  • Fast temperature control, quiet operation
  • Energy-efficient, compact installation
  • Wide range of capacities
  • Wi-Fi control on selected models

Floor Console

A lower-mounted indoor unit for situations where a high-wall unit isn't suitable, or where you simply prefer heat delivered at floor level.

Works well

  • Under windows
  • Rooms with limited high-wall space
  • Homes with sloping ceilings
  • Certain renovation layouts

Benefits

  • Strong heating performance
  • Easy access to controls and filters
  • Heating and cooling
  • Suitable for retrofit and new build

Heat pump vs electric heater

A standard electric heater turns electricity straight into heat. A heat pump moves heat from outside into the room instead, so a correctly sized unit typically gives around three times the heat for the same power, keeps working on frosty Waikato mornings, and cools in summer too.

Retrofit

Retrofit heat pump specialists

Adding a heat pump to an existing home, or replacing an older system, takes more than picking a unit. We assess existing refrigerant pipework, drainage, electrical supply, outdoor unit location, wall construction, existing penetrations, indoor unit position, airflow and service access — then leave it clean and tidy, with your old unit taken away and disposed of.

New build

New-build heat pumps

For new homes we work with you or your builder before the internal walls and ceilings go up, planning indoor and outdoor unit positions, refrigerant pipework, drainage, HVAC electrical supply, isolators and future servicing access. Early planning makes for a much cleaner finished installation.

Our registered electrician completes the electrical work associated with the HVAC installation — dedicated circuits, isolators and associated switchboard work where required.

Ducted Heating & Cooling

Whole-Home Ducted Heat Pump Systems

A ducted heat pump warms and cools the home with no wall unit in every room. A central indoor unit sits in the ceiling space, with conditioned air distributed through discreet ceiling or wall outlets. We design ducted systems for both retrofit installations and new-build projects.

Whole-home comfort

Heat or cool multiple rooms from one central HVAC system.

Discreet appearance

Most equipment is hidden in the ceiling space — only outlets, the return-air grille and controls are visible.

Zoning options

Divide the system into zones so you control which areas receive heating or cooling.

Smart controls

Wall controllers, room sensors, Wi-Fi/app control, zone control and smart zoning platforms on selected systems.

Quiet operation

The main indoor unit is generally positioned away from normal living areas.

Clean interior design

Whole-home heating and cooling without a high-wall unit in every room.

Retrofit

Retrofit ducted systems

A ducted system doesn't have to go in during construction. Where the property allows, we design and retrofit ducted heating and cooling into an existing home — assessing roof-space access, indoor unit location, duct routes, supply outlets, return-air position, zones, controller and sensor positions, outdoor unit position, condensate drainage, HVAC electrical supply and future service access.

The system is designed around your property, rather than forcing a standard layout into every home.

New build

New-build ducted systems

We work from the building plans before construction reaches final fit-off. Early HVAC planning coordinates duct routes, ceiling outlets, return-air grilles, zone dampers, controllers, room sensors, indoor unit location, access panels, outdoor unit position, condensate drainage and electrical requirements — for a more integrated, professional result.

Multi-Room Systems

Flexible Multi-Split Heating & Cooling

A practical option when several rooms need heating and cooling but a fully ducted system isn't suitable. Depending on the equipment, multiple indoor units run from one outdoor system — independent comfort in several rooms, with fewer outdoor units around the property.

Ideal for

  • Multiple bedrooms
  • Townhouses and apartments
  • Renovations
  • Homes with limited outdoor-unit space
  • Properties where ducting isn't practical
  • Selected new-build projects

Benefits

  • Heating and cooling in multiple rooms
  • Individual room control
  • Fewer outdoor units
  • Flexible indoor-unit placement
  • Clean exterior appearance
  • Different indoor unit types may be available

Choosing between multi-room and ducted

We won't default to a multi-room system just because several rooms need heating. We look at the property and compare individual single-split systems, multi-room systems and ducted heating and cooling. The right answer depends on home layout, number of rooms, roof-space availability, outdoor-unit space, your comfort expectations, budget and control requirements.

Ventilation

HRV, Fresh Air & Ventilation

Heating and cooling are only part of a comfortable indoor environment. A properly designed ventilation system introduces fresh, filtered air, improves airflow and helps manage excess moisture inside the home — for existing homes and new builds alike.

Why ventilation matters

Everyday living puts a lot of moisture into the air: cooking, showers, drying washing, even breathing. When it can’t get out, it settles as condensation on cold windows and walls. That leads to mould, musty smells and a home that is harder to heat, because damp air takes more energy to warm. A ventilation system moves the moist air out and brings drier, filtered air in.

Signs your home needs it

  • Wet windows on winter mornings
  • Mould on ceilings, walls or curtains
  • Musty smells in wardrobes or bedrooms
  • Rooms that feel stuffy or damp
  • Bathrooms that stay steamy long after a shower
  • The home feels cold even with the heating on

Ventilation solutions

  • Positive-pressure ventilation
  • Balanced ventilation
  • Heat-recovery ventilation
  • Whole-home ventilation
  • Bathroom and kitchen extraction
  • Selected SmartVent and HRV systems

Benefits

  • Fresher indoor air
  • Improved airflow through the home
  • Helps manage excess indoor moisture
  • Helps reduce condensation
  • Filtered incoming air
  • Improved indoor comfort

Every home is different

The right ventilation solution depends on construction, insulation, existing moisture conditions, roof-space conditions, window performance, occupancy, how the home is heated and any existing extraction. We assess the home before recommending a final solution.

Retrofit

Retrofit ventilation

Existing homes may suit ventilation installed through available roof or ceiling spaces. We assess roof access, duct routes, outlet positions, intake locations, existing extraction and electrical requirements.

New build

New-build ventilation

Ventilation can be considered at the early design stage, allowing better planning of duct routes, supply outlets, extract points, equipment location, external vents, electrical supply and future servicing access.

Our registered electrician completes the electrical work associated with the HVAC and ventilation equipment where required.

Zoning & Smart Controls

  • Turn on/off remotely
  • Change temperature and mode
  • Fan settings
  • Schedules and timers

Ducted zoning

A zoned system lets different parts of the home be controlled independently — rather than conditioning every room whenever the system runs. Motorised zone dampers control the airflow delivered to each area: living and dining, kitchen, bedrooms, master bedroom, upstairs, downstairs, home office or guest rooms.

Room temperature sensors

Selected zoning systems use individual room sensors, so the system receives temperature information from different areas rather than relying on one central controller. The level of individual room control available depends on the HVAC system and zoning platform selected.

Smart design, not just more zones

More zones doesn't automatically mean a better system. We design the zone layout around how your home is actually used — a day zone for living, dining and kitchen; night zones for bedrooms; a separate master zone; and occasional-use areas like a guest room or office. Good zoning makes the system easier to use while improving comfort.

Questions

Heat pump FAQs

What size heat pump do I need?

It depends on the room size, ceiling height, insulation, glazing and how much sun it gets. Our free calculator gives you a quick estimate, and we confirm it properly at the in-home assessment.

Are heat pumps expensive to run?

A correctly sized heat pump typically gives around three times the heat of a plain electric heater for the same power, so it is one of the cheapest ways to heat a room. Running costs depend on the size, the settings and your power plan.

Will it keep heating on frosty mornings?

Yes. Modern heat pumps are built for New Zealand winters and keep heating when it is below zero outside. Sizing it properly for the room is what keeps it comfortable on the coldest mornings.

How long does installation take?

Most single heat pumps go in within a day. Ducted and ventilation systems take a little longer, and we book a date that suits you.

Do you take the old unit away?

Yes. If we are replacing an existing heat pump, we remove it and dispose of it for you.

How often should a heat pump be serviced?

Once a year, ideally before winter. Book sooner if it smells musty, drips, or is not heating like it used to. We service all major brands.

Can I control it from my phone?

Yes, with Wi-Fi control on selected high-wall models and on ducted systems with smart zoning, so you can turn it on before you get home.

Which areas do you cover?

Hamilton, Cambridge, Te Awamutu, Waikato and Auckland: homes, new builds and commercial buildings.

Do I need to do anything before install day?

Not much. Clear the space under where the indoor unit will go and the spot outside for the outdoor unit, make sure we can get into the roof space or under the floor if the job needs it, and let us know about parking. Someone needs to be home to let us in and for the handover at the end.

Can I clean my heat pump myself?

Yes, the filters. Every few weeks while it’s working hard, switch it off, slide the filters out, vacuum or rinse them in lukewarm water and let them dry before refitting. Leave the coils, drain and electrical checks to the yearly service.

How long does a service take?

About an hour for a standard high-wall heat pump. Ducted, multi-room and commercial systems take longer, and we tell you how long when we book.

Can a heat pump help my rental meet the Healthy Homes standards?

Yes. A fixed heat pump in the main living room is one of the most common ways to meet the heating standard, which sets a minimum heating capacity for that room. We size the heat pump to meet it. The ventilation standard also needs extractor fans in kitchens and bathrooms, and we install those too.

Why is my heat pump not heating?

First check the remote is set to HEAT, the batteries are good, no timer is switching it off, the filters are clean and nothing is blocking the outdoor unit. On frosty mornings it also pauses for a few minutes to defrost, which is normal. If it still blows cold air, shows an error code or leaks water, book a repair and we will find the fault.

Do you service and repair all heat pump brands?

Yes. We service and repair Daikin, Mitsubishi Electric, Panasonic, Fujitsu, Haier, AHI Carrier and other major brands across Hamilton and the Waikato, whoever installed them.

Can you replace my old heat pump?

Yes. We size the new heat pump for the room, reuse what we safely can, install the new unit and take the old one away for disposal.

Do you install floor console heat pumps?

Yes. A floor console sits low on the wall, so it suits rooms under windows, with sloping ceilings or without space for a high-wall unit.

How much does a ducted heat pump cost?

It depends on the size of the home, the number of outlets and zones, roof-space access and the controls you choose. We give you a fixed-price written quote after a free in-home assessment.

What is the difference between a ducted heat pump and an HRV?

A ducted heat pump heats and cools the home. An HRV or other ventilation system brings in fresh, filtered air and moves damp air out, but does not heat. Many homes benefit from both, and they can be planned together.

Is a multi-split cheaper than separate heat pumps?

Not always. A multi-split needs fewer outdoor units, but separate single heat pumps are often similar in price and keep working independently. We price both so you can compare.

Is an HRV or home ventilation system worth it?

If you get wet windows, mould on ceilings or a damp smell, ventilation is usually one of the best upgrades for the home. It keeps the air dry and fresh, and dry air is cheaper to heat.

Do you install commercial air conditioning in Hamilton?

Yes. We install, replace and maintain office, shop and commercial air conditioning across Hamilton and the Waikato, including split, ceiling cassette and ducted systems, with scheduled maintenance for suitable sites.
